The existing equipment in this lab can be grouped according to the various stages of metallographic preparation: |

| 1 – Sample cut | ||||||

Discotom 2 Used for cutting ferrous and non ferrous materials. Uses disks of silicon carbide. |

Minitom Used for cutting plastic materials and composites. Use diamond discs.

| 2 - Mounting the resin sample | ||||||
|
Predopress Clamp for mounting of samples. Uses termoendurecível resin. |

Kit epofix Kit for cold mounting samples consisting of an epoxy resin and a hardener.

 |

| 3 - Sanding and polishing the sample |
||||||
|
The Lab offers 5 Sanders that are used for sanding and polishing of samples.
Use silicon carbide sandpaper of different particle sizes with a diameter of 250 mm and polishing cloths with the same diameter where are placed diamond Abrasives of varying granulometries. |

| 4 - Sample observation |

The lab has 4 optical microscopes, being three of them equipped with video system that allows the visualization of microstructures in screens and the digital image acquisition. It also has two Magnifier with camera to particle acquisition of digital images. |
